BRANDING

PACKAGING DESIGN
ILLUSTRATION
For our final project in Design Studio, our class was broken up and put into teams. Each team was paired up with a student entrepreneur, who we consulted and collaborated with throughout the entire assignment.
Our client was creating a brand of frozen vegan foods for children. Each student in our group was assigned with creating a brand for the product. The brand needed to include a logo, packaging, a tote bag, a refrigerator design, as well as a food mascot to represent the product. One of the hardest design challenges of this project was designing for two very different target audiences: children and their parents.
In my explorations, I tried to create a logotype that was friendly to both children and parents. I based my final logotype on Gotham Rounded, as I enjoyed the warmth of its rounded terminals. Furthermore, I created my own letterforms that omitted and streamlined parts of the p, a, and d to give the logo that “futuristic” feel my client wanted. The final element of the logo is the o, which was combined with the image of a sprout and a happy face to show that the brand was plant-oriented and for children.
For this project, the client wanted us to design an animal character to be the mascot of their brand. Because this was a kid’s product, I designed my mascot with multiple things in mind. Most importantly, I wanted the mascot to be simple and cute. This would ensure that it would be memorable, as well as easy for kids to draw. The final design is a polar bear named Po-pa. I based his silhouette on a bowling pin, because I felt the shape was unique while still looking friendly and approachable.
